ABOUT

Scott Menard

Scott Menard is the President of Homes Built For America (HBFA), one of the leading new homebuilders in the San Francisco Bay Area, where HBFA ranked as the 14th largest homebuilder in 2024. A third-generation homebuilder with over 35 years of industry experience, Scott is widely recognized as a leading expert and trusted voice in the new home building business, especially in high-demand, supply-constrained markets. He co-founded HBFA with the mission of delivering high-quality, move-in-ready homes—complete with washer, dryer, and refrigerator—for first-time homebuyers. Under his leadership, the company has created nearly 400 homes in various stages of development and has built a reputation for quality, efficiency, and market-focused solutions.

Scott is also the CEO of Brighton-Coulson, Inc., a general contracting firm that constructs HBFA communities and other residential and commercial projects. Additionally, he serves as Executive Vice President of The True Life Companies, HBFA’s parent company, where he played a pivotal role in scaling operations across multiple states, including California, Colorado, Texas, Utah, and North Carolina. Since joining The True Life Companies in 2013, Scott has helped grow the team from 20 to nearly 70 employees and expanded the property portfolio to over 5,000 future homesites.

Scott’s journey in homebuilding began at age 17, working for his uncle at Kaufman & Broad Homes. Over the years, he has held executive and leadership roles at several top-tier firms, including SummerHill Homes, Taylor Morrison Homes, Ryland Homes, Trumark Companies, and Shea Homes. He has personally overseen the development of more than 100 communities and the construction of over 3,000 homes. His background spans every aspect of the business—from land acquisition and development to construction, sales, and marketing—making him one of the industry’s most well-rounded and respected professionals.

A native of San Jose, California, Scott holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is currently pursuing his MBA at Humphreys University. He also completed the Executive Management Program at Cranfield University in the UK and holds a Construction Management Certificate from San Jose State University. His career achievements have earned him repeated recognition, including being named to the “40 Under 40” lists by both the Silicon Valley Business Journal and East Bay Business Times.

Scott’s insights and thought leadership have been featured in industry publications such as Builder and Developer Magazine and The Builder’s Daily, where he has been recognized for disrupting traditional land acquisition models and championing innovative development practices.

Passionate about building homes that help families grow, connect, and thrive, Scott is driven by a simple philosophy: “You only live once—if you don’t love what you do, don’t do it.” He finds deep fulfillment in his work, knowing the homes he builds become the foundation for people’s lives, memories, and futures.

Outside of work, Scott lives in Danville with his wife and two sons. He is an avid golfer, autograph collector, and fitness enthusiast who enjoys spending time with family and lifelong friends. He is also a strong advocate for work-life balance, a perspective shaped partly by the lessons of the Great Financial Crisis. Scott continues to give back through involvement in community organizations such as Junior Achievement and the Building Industry Association.
